What is Oxjam?

During October, more than 950 venues2,000 volunteers6,000 bands and musicians and 135,000 audience members nationwide will enable Oxjam to raise £500,000 to help Oxfam fight poverty.

Since 2006, more than 36,000 musicians have played to an audience of over 750,000 people at almost 3,000 Oxjam events, raising in excess of £1.2 million to fight poverty around the world. Oxjam 2010 is expected to take the total past £1.5 million, enough to buy safe water for 1.6 million people, 750,000 bags of seeds or 60,000 goats.

One of the highlights of the month-long festival will be the Oxjam Takeover, a series of city-wide mini-festivals taking place in 28 locations across the UK, from Aberdeen to Southampton, on the weekend of 23 and 24 October. During a single weekend, around 3,000 musicians will perform to an audience of more than 35,000, all raising money to help Oxfam fight poverty worldwide.


Acts confirmed for the Southampton Takeover on October 24th so far include:
Subgiant, Charly Coombes and The New Breed, Ben Dlugokecki, Nat Jenkins, Arp Attack, Fly Frankie Fly, The NineNinetyNines, Morphic Fields, The Doghouse Boat Boys, The Family, Porcelain Coins, Moneytree, Haunted Stereo, Kill Kasper, I Dream In Colour, Zoo In The Sky, Oresteia, Origami Dinosaur, Suicide Party, Supernovas, Heathward, Remnant Psyche, Ancient Shamans, The Ukelele Orchestra, Grant Sharkey, K**t and The Gang, Damo The Chav Comic, Roxy Twirls Burlesque, Alex Dawson, Beatitudes, Sam Ziggy, The Common (Acoustic), May Day, Mr Tom, The Flying Alexanders (acoustic), Poetry with Papa Jon, DJ sets from Alex The Kid, Jimi Needles, Hannah ODD, Adam Rooke, Matt Supersonic and many more to be announced.


The venues taking part are The Soul Cellar, Goblets, Hamptons, The Old Fat Cat and The Art House. There will be a whole range of acts taking to the stages with a host of DJs, and bands covering genres including the best local punk, folk , hip-hop, ska, rock, indie, dance.
